June 22, 2022 – Hays, Kan. – Sunflower Electric Power Corporation, headquartered in Hays, Kan., has launched a nationwide search for its next president and chief executive officer, following the retirement of current President and CEO Stuart Lowry. The Sunflower Board of Directors has retained CarterBaldwin Executive Search as a partner for the search. The search process will be led by Chris Guiney, who leads CarterBaldwin’s energy and infrastructure practice.

In 1957, six western Kansas distribution cooperatives formed Sunflower on the cooperative business model as a source for wholesale generation and transmission services. As distribution cooperatives, they understood the importance of the seven cooperative principles, the importance of creating a company that focuses not on profit but on the best interest of Kansans and their way of life.

Today, Sunflower’s members include six member distribution cooperatives and one wholly owned subsidiary serving consumer-members in 58 central and western Kansas counties. The focus of Sunflower’s 400+ workforce is to deliver its seven members with reliable energy at the lowest possible cost via a diverse fuel electric generation mix, including both traditional and renewable resources, and more than 2,400 miles of high-voltage transmission line.
